Best lightweight wheels out there

Hi,

After modifying my car with a 700 kit i want to put every single pony on the road so i have decided to sell my 20" Gemballa wheels and buy some lightweight 19"s.
A friend of mine got a set of carbon-magnesium wheels (you all know the brand) which costs a fortune but their actual use is for truck and not for the road. Also he had some leaking issues so i don't want to have the same problems.
Is it true that with very lightweight wheels the car starts to be unbalanced, and less controllable?

To be honest i was thinking of the Forged Tech-1, if you have any real life experiences with those or any other wheels please help me.

thank you in advance
Antonis

I use OZ at the moment and have the new BBS FI on order as they are the lightest street legal 19" with TUV for here.

here you see some weights

OZ Ultraleggera HLT for Porsche 997 GT2
Front: 8,5x19 ET53 weight 9,74KG (Stock GT2 10,90KG)
Rear: 12x19 ET51 weight 12,12KG (Stock GT2 14,50KG)

BBS FI rims
Front: 8,75x19 ET50 weight 7,4KG (Stock GT2 10,90KG)
Rear: 12x19 ET50 weight 8,9KG (Stock GT2 14,50KG)

you can tell that the car is better driving with the lighter rims

yes for sure the only problem is that the make them on custom order and I still have to wait 4 more weeks. can wait to get the OZ off the car to see how the ride is with 11kg less on the wheel. I was very happy with the OZ so far but the weight that the BBS is less is just to much.

i think porsche uses a multiplier of 7x the unsprung weight reduction to describe the output benefit. i'm sure there are a lot of technical guys who can explain that better than me but it's almost like an increase in hp when u shed weight from lighter wheels. as for how it feels, it's prob all in my head but the dymags do seem to float over bumps vs thumping into them like the stock f'ugly tt wheels did. of course u have to be extra extra careful to avoid any sharp edges or bumps!

Thanks for the pics. Very nice looking wheels. At a little over 16 lbs for the fronts, and 19.5 lbs for the rears, that's hard to beat.

Do you know if they come in 18's?

AMT Forged Alloy's in my opinion are the best money can buy. They have some new designs available that can be spec'ed to even lighter than the Tech 1's. Tech 3's I think.

Forged Alloy are the true enthusiast's wheel, ultra light, super strong, great looking, very durable finish. I love mine and get a ton of compliments from people looking at the car. Expensive, worth every penny.

they are ok from the looks but the BBS set is still less weight anyway rims are many on the market but not legal here with our TUV testing most wheels dont pass. So for me I am happy that sooner or later I have them on the car. it has to be street legal here so we are limited on a few companies that pass the tests and have the prober documents

I don't think you will find a "best" wheel. There are many excellent lightweight wheels so it somewhat comes down to aesthetics. Personally, I use HRE P43's and Champion RS171's on my car.

Contact one of the forum sponsors for a list of wheels that meet your specs. I have purchased from Alex@SharkWerks and Alan@WheelEnhancement - both excellent experiences with great after-sales support.
