Best tire for a 996
My father has a 996 that he drives a few time a week and is in the market for new tires. He currently has Pirelli P Zeros but complains that they wear out to quickly.
What tires do you guys like for a weekend driver/daily driver. He doesn't track or race it - just cruises around town and to the office once and a while.
Thanks in advance.

This is a very subjective question. All 996 tires wear out too quickly.
I personally hate PS2's. I think the older Pilot Sports were a much better tire.....for my taste.
For a good tire for a good price for what you asked for it to do, you might check out the Hankook V12's and the Sumitomo HTRZIII's.

the Sumitomo HTRZIII's. Just ordered my second set of rears. I think I still have 5K miles left and have had it for 15K miles already. Amazingly good grip. 90% of performance for 50% of the price.

After years of being a Potenza fan boy (and spending over 4 bills per rear tire), a few weeks ago I went with the Sumitomo HTR ZIII on all 4 corners.
So far I only notice two differences:
-More chirping noises around corners when i really push it.
-Significantly less road noise when cruising down the highway.

Just ordered my second set of Hankook V12s, I liked 'em so much. Best bang for the buck. Previously had Pzeros, then RE050A Pole Positions, then the Hankooks.
I don't track my car, and street performance has been on par or better than the previous tires. Obviously, however, I'm not driving at 9/10s (or probably even 2/10s of the car's limit for that matter). For what it's worth, at half the price of a set of benchmark PS2s, I'll continue to buy 'em.

show your dad this and see what he thinks:
The HTR Z III (High Technology Radials-3rd generation) is Sumitomo's Max Performance Summer tire developed for sports cars, sporty coupes and high performance sedans.
The Pilot Sport PS2 is a Max Performance Summer tire member of the Michelin Pilot family of low profile, high-speed tires. Initially developed for Original Equipment (O.E.) on some of the world's most prestigious sports cars and performance sedans, the Pilot Sport PS2 combines world-class dry road traction, handling and cornering. Some of the first Pilot Sport PS2 O.E. fitments included the BMW Alpina Z8, McLaren SLR and Porsche GT2 & GT3 models.
I'm on my 6th set of PS2s...wouldn't have it any other way
