Just stumbled over this thread looking for better radar protection. I currently have Escort Passport 9500ix Which is great for detecting red lights and stationary radars, like the ones in school zones but completely sucks on detecting lazers or cops sitting in the shade shooting lazers at exotic cars. 2 weeks ago I was flying on the freeway when the radar detector flashed lazer lazer. Five minutes later my car was lit up like a patriotic night club red and blue lights everywhere. That lazer detector might as well flashed your |`u#ed. Cause that's exactly what just happened.

So you guys actually use lazer jammers together with detectors? From reading this thread I take it the Laser Interceptor is the best out there so far? If any you guys are in the LA area can you recommend an installer?

Once your detector alerts you to laser you are owned. They already have a speed reading on you.

What I have ecountered in MD this past year is 99% Radar. And I drove across the US and have logged 16k miles with K40 radar front and rear with Laser Diffuser only 1 Laser alert in a school zone and No tickets. I guess I'm lucky. Plenty of Radar Saves!

Yes, but LEO must have the latest equipment in order to enforce the law.

Here in Texas, they passed a law against Jammers. However, enforcing this law requires the use of the latest technology in jammers, an expensive proposition. Thus, every officer must have the new guns which will display the fact that "countermeasures" were used. All the old guns say is GTG. Right now, even in a rich city like Sugar Land Tx, they don't have the new guns yet (although this will change, I am sure).

I know because I was hit a while back, cruising at 75 in a 65. My LI went off squawking and then told me what gun was used. There was a car right behind me and he got pulled over.

Get on Radar Roys cite and make some local friends. I did and we shot my car with an actual gun and it worked. Also, the shop I use now for stereo/radar /LI has one.

K40 and Escort got OWNED EVERY time. Even aiming the guns where the head(s) were place got punch through. Nice thing about LI is that you can update the software. So, as new guns come out the can be program to jam those. IIRC Blinder just came out with a new set up that has been testing pretty good. I don't have any first hand knowledge of that set up yet.
Just do you home work. The reason K40 and the Escort systems are installed by the audio shops and dealer is MARKUP. They are making close to 50% on the unit and then what ever they charge for the install.

This is 100% true, well said.

You've been lucky not to have been hit with laser up close.....my K40 reaches punch through around 1000 ft while my LI jammed it almost directly up to the gun. Since getting my LI's, I have not gotten a single ticket from Laser, and I'm not a slow driver either

Went to a local high end car electronics shop yesterday, 9500 ci installed 2k, custom install with display in rear view mirror +600 (looks awesome), they can add a bluetooth module that uses existing buttons/head unit 900, add ipod +350. They even have a cool add on camera front or back that displays through the existing head unit - nice for seeing the curbs when parking! Don't recall the price. I shouldn't of gone there!!!

Whenever I see a Laser setup by Police, it reminds me of a Sniper looking thru a scope, outside his vehicle, leaning on the car or standing very stern or sitting in the drivers seat with the window down, to get his target. My point is that it looks much easier to just do radar. I mean very few people have Laser jammer/ diffuser.

All true, but it is there! I have learned that in Scottsdale only the motorcycle dudes use radar.

It is actually harder. You try making a 1000 foot or 1500 shot. The LIDAR beam is still only about a foot big at that range. That is why when they first came out the said you need to use a tripod. Newer guns have gotten better but it does take a steady aim and lots of practice to get long range hits.

Wikipedia...

A limitation of LIDAR is that it cannot be used while a police car is in motion, because it requires the operator to actively target each vehicle, whereas traditional radar can be operated while the police officer is driving his car. Other restrictions include a precipitation free environment, as the laser can produce erratic readings from airborne moisture or smoke. Popularity of LIDAR speed detection is on the rise, though, as costs decline, ease of operation approaches radar, and existing radar equipment reaches its end-of-service life and is rotated out of service.

So now I will speed up in the Rain!
