hello all,

all this talk about suspension tweaks made me think about my car. its a 2003 C2 Cab.

after i picked up i put ROW M030 on it. the floaty feeling on the front was gone, but now i want more.

the problem is that i dont know what problem i am trying to solve. as an engineer i usually try to clearly understand a problem and break it into multiple smaller problems to solve them individually. i think i want the following:

• less body roll during cornering
• car front seems to lift up a bit before/inside the corner (just one side, the inner one -- due to cab body rigidity?)

i regret a little not getting PSS9 to begin with, but i already got ROW M030 so i can either sell ROW M030 and get PSS9 or try to tweak existing ROW M030 a bit. i am thinking i will just try and tweak existing ROW M030. so here is what i am planning for tweaks to start with:

• GT3 front and rear sway bars
• H&R springs -- can i install H&R springs on ROW M030?
• any other suggestions???

also, for those of you in the SF Bay Area -- whats a good shop that specializes in porsche suspension? i think sharkwerks does mostly engine work...

so yeah... my suspension knowledge is pretty weak, so if you want to point me at the "source of truth" docs, it will be greatly appreciated. i know cab suspension tuning is a little different from coupe, so maybe there are some cab suspension tips i can get?

Sell the ROW and buy the PSS9's. I was going to sell my car 2 days after I bought it because I thought the handling was worse than my stock 3 series coupe. Fortunately, I was pressured into buying the PSS9's. I wouldn't get rid of it for anything, except some MOTONs.

 

PSS9s have been awesome so far. I don't track the car or drive it hard but it definitely feels more "connected" to my brain versus a stock 996.

 

Yes, PSS9's are the way to go...why pour money into the M030's? If its not the way you want it, why get bigger sway bars, new springs, then new shocks, and then you have replaced all your M030 with different stuff...lol...Go PSS9's ad then if you need more GT3 sway bars. you will not need anything else.

yeah i know, i know.. but that means admitting to myself that i was wrong for going with ROW M030 to begin with...

 

maybe not wrong, just not right for you....its hard to beat PSS9's....besides who do you thing makes the suspensions for Porsche? Bilstein...so if they make a system, they know how to make it better than the OEM suspensions they supply to Porsche.

 

yeah i know... do you think it will be possible for me to sell a used ROW M030 set with only a few thousand miles on it?

you want "good enough" or an excellent system? Its sounds like you wanted a more sporting package than the ROW M030...the X74 may have been better for you....but I still feel the PSS9 is the best as you can adjust height and dampening...with the M030's and X74's what it is is what it is....You can sell your ROW M030....

 

If you don't like the ROW030, don't add the GT3 bars to it, it will just acerbate the issues.
Keep the ROW030 swaybars and add PSS9 to the car. You can probably sell the ROW030 springs and shocks to someone.

I think the stock shocks are Boge, not Bilstein. Not sure about the ROW030. The x74 is Bilstein.

 

PSS9 will not cure body roll... mediocre at best, PSS9 will give you a stock to a stiffer ride. Stiffer will give less roll but who wants a jarring ride. Lowering will help as well but not that drastic. In your case the best way you can minimize body roll is a stiffer sway bar... However, the stiffer the bar the more you give up on your independent suspension... so it really depends on what your looking for. ROW030 is a excellent suspension, for you I thinks its weakness is its sways. I would try H&R rears only... and if you want more do the front... you can do this yourself and its relatively cheaper than buying PSS9's... If you want a more agressive setup then, baby steps for now.... Im an engineer (electrical) also, I hope youre not an ME if you are shame on you.

 

I have a ROW on my 99 and like it a lot. I track my car, and think the only issue is maybe the rear sway is not stiff enough. I couldn't imagine needing anything stiffer for a car that wasn't tracked. At some point I may go to coil overs, but only if I start tracking the car more than 20 days a year.
